Crista is founder and heart of Roots Folk School

Roots is a dream that began while living in Wisconsin among natural farmers and friends living a permaculture lifestyle.

Crista has been studying herbs for over 30 years and loves to teach others applicable salves and remedies.
She developed a love of gardening from her dad in a small backyard in the Bay Area. he taught her about composting and instilled a love of growing food efficiently in a small space.

Crista grew up with a family of six kids, all helping to can and preserve food from her mom and has been canning and preserving since then. She's taught many people over the years how to preserve food for themselves, longing for a farm that became realized in Placerville, CA.
She raised pigs and meat chickens. She continues now to raise meats for the family and a few to sell locally.

Crista has opened and run Nature and Forest Schools in California and Wisconsin and currently co-owns and teaches at Coyote Willow that is on C&S Leggacy Farm.
She and her husband offer horse riding lessons (he teaches and she schedules).
Crista loves to share and teach others permaculture and self reliance and feels there's a lot of peace in knowing how to care for and feed our families sustainably. The more we know, the more peace and confidence we have!

Crista and Scott have 9 kids together, 3 in-laws to their married kids, and 1 1/2 grandkids.
Crista has homeschooled her own children for over 15 years and enjoys teaching with a hands-on, engaging approach.
